Purchasing Manager- Auburn Hills (2023)

The Purchasing Manager will be a member of our Global Supply Management organization, supporting the development, implementation and management of strategies to provide Nexteer with optimal supply assurance, pricing, flexibility, quality and delivery performance.

What you will do:

• Lead a team of strategic buyers to ensure Nexteer’s commodity pricing is best in class.
• Develop spend strategies, identify potential suppliers, analyze supplier capabilities, select suppliers and determine prices and terms to meet Nexteer’s material spend goals.
• Evaluate supplier core competencies and competitive positioning using industry cost models.
• Develop and maintain a robust and cost disruptive supply base for the assigned commodities that deliver material cost goals.
• Develop and maintain sourcing strategies in cooperation with other regions.
• Analyze commodity markets, evaluate trading volumes & statistics, bid/ask prices and evaluate cost of production of different suppliers using cost models / cost breakdowns.
• Develop hedging strategies to mitigate Nexteer’s exposure to commodity prices
• Manage respective supplier relationships and performance, including but not limited to dispute resolution.
• Monitor current commodity market conditions, technology roadmaps and identify supply/demand challenges and opportunities.
• Identify supplier consolidation opportunities that will generate savings from executing strategic sourcing projects.
• Evaluate supplier business proposals and present recommendations that will result in cost savings, avoidance or containment.
• Develop sourcing and negotiation strategies that deliver against business objectives and achieves sustainable relationships with suppliers.
• Create competitive environments with suppliers to support best in class material cost.
• Evaluate and provide guidance on final selection of suppliers; Perform value analysis for final selection of suppliers.
• Travel to Saginaw for team meetings 

Job Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Supply Management, Business, or Engineering.
• 5+ years of experience in the automotive industry, preferably in direct material purchasing
• Ability to function independently with minimal supervision and technical guidance.
• Excellent negotiation skills.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
• Ability to read blueprints and understand basic engineering documents.
• Strong knowledge of the specific commodities, materials, and products being purchased.
• High analytical ability in complex situations with a strong knowledge of purchasing strategies & skills.
• Must be able to travel up to 15%.
