Nexteer Research and Development applies Nexteer’s motion control expertise to innovate next-generation products for both automotive and non-automotive applications. We are looking for a candidate who can guide our activity by applying a holistic approach to system safety. The right candidate will lead up-front safety assessment of new products, with responsibilities ranging from architecture synthesis for safety goals to developing safety assessment plans to testing and documentation. The candidate will work with multiple stakeholders, including Nexteer Research and Development, Nexteer safety and engineering teams, and external customers.


Job Responsibilities:

  • Lead safety analysis for Research and Development advanced project portfolio, including automotive chassis and driveline as well as non-automotive projects
  • Conduct assessments of future Electric Power Steering systems to ensure compliance with internal safety approval processes; activities may include software testing, functional testing, and vehicle testing
  • Specify safety strategies for system architecture, including safety concept, failure management and driver warning strategies
  • Lead safety assessment programs, including project management, documentation preparation, gate reviews, etc.
  • Implement a proactive approach to system safety that is tailored to a level appropriate for advanced projects


Job Requirements:

  • Minimum 4 years of experience working with safety critical systems containing mechanical and electronic hardware and software (e.g. ABS/ESC, powertrain control, etc.)
  • Minimum 2 years of experience working with functional safety
  • In-depth knowledge and experience applying ISO 26262 or equivalent non-automotive standard
  • Experience with systems engineering including requirements development and verification
  • Experience with Vector CAN tools preferred (e.g. CANape, CANoe, CANalyzer)
  • Experience with embedded software preferred
  • Experience with Matlab/Simulink preferred
  • Highly motivated self-starter with a strong desire to have a significant impact on future products
  • Ability to work with large, extended product teams in multiple geographic locations
  • Excellent organization and documentation abilities
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills


Education Requirements:

  • BS degree required
  • Majors:  Electrical, Computer, or Mechanical Engineering; Computer Science; or Physics
