The objective of the Student Programs at Nexteer Automotive is to select students with high potential and provide them with "real world" work experiences. Work assignments expose students to many of the company’s products, processes and procedures. Assignments are designed to assimilate acquired classroom education with actual hands-on work experience in a technical environment. In addition, Nexteer Automotive gains the opportunity to find new talent to enhance productivity while providing students exposure to full-time career opportunities.


The Nexteer Automotive Steer-by-Wire engineering team continues to grow and evolve as we are working with multiple customers in support of their development of demonstration vehicles and design requirements.  At the same time the team is developing and refining our own production-intent designs for offering on anticipated upcoming requests for new business quotes.  Steer-by-wire technology is an exciting development in the automotive industry, gathering considerable interest from many areas.  It provides significant benefits for both traditional and autonomously-driven vehicles, being a key enabler for the Nexteer Quiet Wheel technology and seamless transitions between autonomous and human drivers.


Nexteer Automotive has one opening for this position in the Steer by Wire Software Group.  This position is located in Auburn Hills, MI.  


Job Description:

  • Support embedded software development activities.
  • Implementation of software content and software issue resolutions.
  • Create software designs and associated documentation.
  • Create software code.
  • Perform unit and integration testing and prepare documentation.
  • Create python, Java, and C++ applications.


Nexteer Automotive is looking for candidate that is in an embedded software, or electrical engineering path. Candidate must have the ability to work well with team members to develop, review, implement and verify complex software applications. This position requires an individual that is detail orientated, results driven, highly motivated with an application requirement focus.



  • Candidate must be attending a 4 year university local to Auburn Hills
  • Candidate must be pursuing a Bachelors in Electrical or Computer Engineering
    • Candidate must be a Junior class standing (minimum)
  • Candidate must be able to work 20-32 hours during Fall and Winter semesters
    • Up to 40 in the summer
  • Must have cumulative 2.7 GPA on 4.0 scale
  • Must be a full-time student (12 or more credits) during Fall and Winter semesters
  • Candidate must have right to work in the US and not require current or future sponsorship
