Division:  US-Corporate (COR)
Req ID:  42622

Nexteer Research and Development applies Nexteer’s motion control expertise to innovate next-generation products for both automotive and non-automotive applications. We have launched an exciting new initiative to develop software product offerings in areas ranging from vehicle health management to road condition monitoring. We are looking for an experienced vehicle dynamics simulation engineer to be a key member of this team.

In this position, you will use your expertise in vehicle dynamics simulation to support development of advanced algorithms that monitor the vehicle, the driver, and the external environment. You will build high-fidelity vehicle dynamics models to simulate steering, braking/acceleration, and ride behavior. You will use your understanding of suspension and steering to construct detailed component models and to develop physics-based approaches to monitor chassis health and behavior.

This position will be located in Auburn Hills, MI.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Develop vehicle dynamics simulation models of vehicle/driver system and perform simulations of steering, braking, acceleration, and ride events
  • Develop detailed models of mechanical and mechatronic vehicle chassis components such as shock absorbers, electric power steering, and ABS/ESC
  • Develop digital twin vehicle and component models using both physics-based and simplified approaches such as response surface models
  • Simulate active chassis systems by integrating mechanical, electrical, and software models
  • Optimize models to improve execution speed and model fidelity

Job Requirements:

  • Vehicle dynamics simulation experience including modeling of tires and suspension kinematics & compliances
  • Experience with vehicle dynamics simulation software, either lumped parameter (CarSim or equivalent) or multibody (ADAMS)
  • In-depth understanding of vehicle dynamics concepts such as bicycle model, suspension kinematics and compliance, and understeer/oversteer allocation
  • Understanding of vehicle dynamics development and testing, including analysis and interpretation of data from standardized test maneuvers
  • Experience with Matlab/Simulink required; experience with control algorithm development and co-simulation with plant models in Matlab preferred
  • Experience with simulation of automotive active chassis or driveline systems containing mechanical and electrical hardware and software (e.g. ABS/ESC, electric power steering, electronic limited slip differentials, semi-active damping, etc.)
  • Understanding of basic project management principles and the ability to apply to own work to manage deliverables and timing
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, hands-on environment
  • Highly motivated self-starter with a strong desire to have a significant impact on future products
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with excellent presentation skills
