The objective of the Student Programs at Nexteer Automotive is to select students with high potential and provide them with "real world" work experiences. Electromagnetics Summer Intern

 

We are looking for an inquisitive, highly self-motivated individual who is eager to learn and has good attention to detail and time management skills.  This position is responsible for electromagnetic analysis, modeling and design of electric machines and electromechanical actuators and sensors for steering systems.  This position allows the candidate to see the development of the project – from requirements to concept.  The ideal candidate will be eager to apply and explore their skills in embedded software, testing, and signal processing.

 

Description:

  • Responsible for electromagnetic analysis, modeling and design of electric machines and electromechanical actuators and sensors
  • Testing and validation of motors and sensors for system requirements
  • Provides technical leadership for projects incorporating complex electromechanical (“Mechatronic”) systems
  • Designs and optimizes simultaneous system performance goals through requirements flow down
  • Verifies and calibrates modeling tools and corrects deficiencies in designs and prototypes
  • Understands and creates system and subsystem specifications

Requirements:

  • Graduate student pursuing MS or PhD  in Electrical Engineering with emphasis in electric machines or electromagnetic actuators
  • Knowledge of brushless machines such as Permanent Magnet (PM) and Switch Reluctant Motor (SRM) and magnetic devices
  • Knowledge of electromagnetic finite element analysis
  • Experience with design and analysis of electric machines and sensors
  • Strong computer skills, and knowledge of simulation tools (e.g. Flux2D/3D, Matlab) is required
  • General competency in all core fields (electronics, electromagnetic)
  • Background in automotive engineering and chassis systems (steering, braking, suspension) is preferred
  • Excellent problem solving techniques
  • Knowledge of system synthesis, analysis and verification techniques
  • Good organization and documentation abilities
  • Ability to manage & support multiple activities (time management skills)
  • Strong work ethic
  • Ability to coordinate and run efficient meetings
  • Ability to communicate effectively worldwide
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and with others
  • Proficiency with Microsoft office tools (Excel, Word, Powerpoint)
