Description of Controller Application Engineer:
This position encourages the use of critical thinking to perform product debug, model verification, requirement analysis, and development on electronic power steering controllers. Work requires interfacing with external customers and suppliers as well as internal customers such as product teams, purchasing, validation, and quality departments. Competency required in electronic design and development, from conception through release to production. Receives direction and input from the Program Team and takes responsibility for completion of project activities and deliverables of the electrical hardware design for a world class Tier 1 automotive supplier based in Saginaw Michigan.
 

Responsibilities for Controller Application Engineer:

  • Acts as the primary electrical engineering interface to the customer
  • Based in Saginaw with potential travel to support customer & suppliers.
  • Maintains a project timeline for applications
  • Supports all required program documentation including:
    • DFMEA’s
    • Safety Plan Development
    • Design Reviews
    • Customer issues/communications tracking
    • Customer Documentation
    • Drawing, Calibration, and Software Releases
    • Component orders
  • Complete process related documentation including Engineering Notices, Design Change Notices, Engineering Change Requests, Cost Requests, 5-Phases, Engineering Permits, etc.
  • Coordinate sample supply requirements for engineering samples to internal and external customers.
  • Coordinate controller activities:  Debug, vehicle testing, validation, plant build, return material analysis
  • Interpret and analyze system and customer specifications to determine impact on the functional design content of the electrical system.
  • Support Product Development activities as required.
  • Interface with other functional groups (EMC, Motor Controls, Software, Sensors) to ensure integrity and accuracy of the design

 

 Requirements for Controller Application Engineer:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering or Physics.  Other technical degrees will be considered with relevant Nexteer experience.  
  • Demonstrated ability to solve problems - quickly, efficiently, and accurately.
  • Ability to work under tight deadlines and commitment to project completion
  • Solid interpersonal and communication skills both in written and verbal formats
  • Ability to interface effectively with internal and external customers
  • Strong leadership skills and team oriented
  • Highly motivated with good time management and organizational skills

 

Preferences for Controller Application Engineer

  • Program management experience
  • Familiarity with electronic assembly processes
  • Familiarity with automotive communication protocols (CAN, LIN, FlexRay)
  • Familiarity with basic tools that apply to CAN networks
  • Familiarity with general electronic schematic diagrams
  • Familiarity with printed circuit board layout and fabrication
