JOB DESCRIPTION:

Nexteer Research and Development applies Nexteer’s motion control expertise to innovate next-generation products for both automotive and non-automotive applications. We have launched an exciting new initiative to develop software product offerings that leverage our expertise in steering, chassis, and vehicle.  We are expanding our role in developing controls algorithms that would enhance driver’s ability to be safer and effective and we are looking for a controls engineer to support this initiative.

 

A successful candidate would utilize actuator (Electric Power Steering, EPS system) knowledge and access to determine the driving environment (road slipperiness, driver alertness,…) and how to react to them (maintain a lane, safely change lanes,…). Model Predictive Control and Machine Learning would be used to determine Driver’s intent or the path of surrounding vehicles. Candidate would be involved in analysis, simulation, and bench+vehicle testing to improve and validate these algorithms.

 

MAJOR JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for development of L2+ ADAS Controls Algorithm
  • These algorithms either help the driver Control the vehicle laterally (Blind Zone Assist, Lane Change Assist, etc), or provide Predictive information to the driver (road grip, threat assessment etc) that would assist the driver to perform better.
  • Develop these Controls algorithms based on Predicting Driver intent.
  • Develop the Predictive information algorithm based on Cloud data from other vehicles.
  • Develop Arbitration algorithm between Driver inputs and Machine inputs (coming from environmental sensors: radars, camera, weather maps etc)
  • Integrate Lateral control algorithms (steering) w Longitudinal control algorithms (brake / throttle )
  • Data analysis and tools development for visualization and calibration of such algorithms
  • Perform Simulation to predict/analyze performance and bench testing together with in-vehicle development.
  • Provides technical leadership for projects incorporating complex electromechanical (“Mechatronic”) systems
  • Help in development of ADAS functions, diagnoses and corrects deficiencies in designs and prototypes
  • Uses rapid prototyping tools for system development
  • Performs Simulation and Analysis of Dynamic Systems, particularly wrt Vehicle Dynamics.
  • Develops Closed Loop Controls Algorithms for such Systems.
  • Stays abreast of new ADAS technology, sensors, functions, etc

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • At least 3 years of ADAS algorithm job experience is required
  • Experience in Model Predictive Control (MPC) is required
  • Experience in Machine Learning is preferred
  • Experience in Control System and particularly Closed Loop issues such as Stability is required.
  • Experience in MATLAB/Simulink is required.
  • Experience in Rapid Prototyping Controllers (Micro Autobox) and Vehicle Dynamics software packages (CarSim or Car Maker) is required.
  • Familiarity w information exchanges between Cloud and onboard controllers is preferred.
  • Experience in Sensor Fusion is a plus.
  • Experience in ROS and C/C++/Python is preferred.
  • Experience with Camera, Radar, or Lidar hardware or Software is a plus.
  • Knowledge of system safety, Human Machine Interface (HMI), and Human Machine Feel (particularly Steering Feel) is a plus
  • General competency and experience in vehicle dynamics, mechanical systems, electronic systems, and computer hardware and software is preferred
  • Understanding robotics algorithms (Perception, Localization, etc) is a plus
  • Experience with automatic embedded code generation is preferred
  • Background in automotive engineering and chassis systems (steering, braking, suspension) and driveline is desirable

 

EDUCATION:

Masters in Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering required

PhD in Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering preferred
