The objective of the Student Programs at Nexteer Automotive is to select students with high potential and provide them with "real world" work experiences. Work assignments expose students to many of the company’s products, processes, procedures, problems, resources, staff areas and people so that they become aware of the career opportunities at Nexteer Automotive. Assignments are designed to assimilate acquired classroom education with actual hands-on work experience in a technical environment. In addition, Nexteer Automotive gains the opportunity to find new talent to enhance productivity.

Job Description: 

  1. Assist in Electrical Power Steering (EPS) software build plans, controller software and calibration update activities to support customer samples and vehicle testing, validation and production.
  2. Assists in EPS trouble shooting activities using: CANalyzer, CANape, CANoe, oscillo-scope and custom made software tools like Etool, EcalNet.
  3. Assists in updates to System Electrical Requirements (SER) per Customer design changes and anomalies.
  4. Assists in creation of DFMEAs, Design Reviews, and validation plans.
  5. Supports electrical validation testing.
  6. Assists with customer communication of anomalies, software changes, samples, validation updates.
  7. Assists in the creation and testing of Controller Assembly specifications.
  8. Attend Customer and Internal Electrical Product Development Team (EPDT) meetings.

Special Skills, preffered: 

Proficient written and verbal communication skills, ability to interface effectively with people, high motivation, organized, experience in Excel and has strong computer skills. Canape, C programing or Matlab/Simulink experience preferred but not necessary.      


Job Requirements: 

  • Must be a full time student (12 credit hours or more)
  • Must be studying Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or Computer Science​ at University of Michigan-Flint or SVSU
  • Must have a 2.7 GPA on a 4.0 scale 
  • Must have the ability to work 20-28 hours per week during the Fall/Winter semesters
    • Able to work up to 40 hours per week during the summer
    • Flexible scheduling
