The objective of the Student Programs at Nexteer Automotive is to select students with high potential and provide them with "real world" work experiences. Work assignments expose students to many of the company’s products, processes and procedures. Assignments are designed to assimilate acquired classroom education with actual hands-on work experience in a technical environment. In addition, Nexteer Automotive gains the opportunity to find new talent to enhance productivity while providing students exposure to full-time career opportunities.


Job Requisition Introductory Paragraph:

This position will allow the Student to assist with the operations in a active Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) test laboratory.  This state-of-the-art laboratory offers the experience and tools that will help prepare the student for a future career in Engineering.  The activities that the Student will be involved with will be to support the Calibration of the entire set of test equipment, verification of the Radio Frequency (RF) performance of the various support equipment and Assist Test Technicians with actual EMC tests.  Student would be asked to complete other miscellaneous tasks as they arise. 


Primary Job Responsibilities:

  • Assist supervisor in any administrative work
  • Create new and/or enhance existing computer applications, programs, spreadsheets, databases, etc. to compile information and generate reports
  • Design/Construct EMC Test support equipment
  • Ability to learn and use EMC test equipment including:
    • Oscilloscopes/Power Supplies/Multi-Meters
    • Spectrum Analyzers/Network Analyzers/EMI Receivers
    • RF Amplifiers
    • Fiber-Optic Equipment
  • General office duties including:
    • making copies, ordering and stocking office supplies
    • promptly answering the phone
    • use of Microsoft applications including: Word, Powerpoint, Excel, Visio
  • Assist in creating/getting the supplies/items needed for presentations, events, etc.
  • Assisting in the calibration and/or purchasing process including:
    • receiving quotes, creating purchase requisitions, creating shippers
    • working with shipping and driving supplies out to be shipped for calibration
    • submitting invoices for payment
    • Leading the Tracking and follow-up with bottlenecks as the milestones are completed
  • Drop off and pick up supplies/items from main facility
  • Support safety program including:
    • Identification of needed supplies
    • Suggestion for safety improvements
    • Periodic review of the laboratory
  • Help in preparation of the ISO17025 A2LA annual renewal and audit
  • Creation and management of Lab Specific Test Activities and Validation Test Plans



  • Candidate must be attending a 2-year College or 4-year University, pursuing a program for a 4-year degree (i.e. pre-engineering)
  • Candidate must be pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or other engineering discipline.
  • Candidate must be able to work 20-32 hours during Fall and Winter semesters
    • Up to 40 in the summer
  • Must have cumulative 2.7 GPA on 4.0 scale
  • Must be a full-time student (12 or more credits) during Fall and Winter semesters
  • Candidate must have right to work in the US and not require current or future sponsorship
