The objective of the Student Programs at Nexteer Automotive is to select students with high potential and provide them with "real world" work experiences. Work assignments expose students to many of the company’s products, processes and procedures. Assignments are designed to assimilate acquired classroom education with actual hands-on work experience in a technical environment. In addition, Nexteer Automotive gains the opportunity to find new talent to enhance productivity while providing students exposure to full-time career opportunities.


Job Requisition Introductory Paragraph:

This position in NVH Engineering (Noise, Vibration, and Harshness) is a true engineering position where the candidate can put his or her engineering skills to the test on a daily basis working in Nexteer’s world renowned Acoustics and Vibration Test Center.  The ideal candidate should have a strong mathematical background with hands on mechanical experience.  Since this position heavily relies upon sensitivity to sound and vibration, a candidate with an acoustical background would be beneficial.  The NVH group supports the Nexteer products from “cradle to grave”, so there are opportunities to work with other groups throughout the organization.


The NVH Co-op position could involve a combination of the following:

  • Support NVH Engineering with day-to-day activities such as:
    • Delivery and Pick-up of test parts and equipment
    • NVH Bench Operator
    • Vehicle Testing (installation of test gears, NVH data collection, pick-up and delivery of customer test vehicles)
    • Data processing, analysis, and writing reports
  • Help with root cause studies
    • Perform gear builds
    • Execute the test plan from the responsible NVH Engineer and give status meetings as directed. 
  • NVH Lab improvement project
    • Be part of a team to complete tasks for lab improvement project
    • Assist with lab testing procedures/specifications


Job Qualifications:

  • Candidate must be attending a 4-year university local to Saginaw
  • Candidate must be pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in one of the following fields of study:
    • Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or Mathematics
  • Candidate must be able to work 20-32 hours during Fall and Winter semesters
    • Up to 40 during the summer
  • Must have cumulative 2.7 GPA on 4.0 scale
  • Must be a full-time student (12 or more credits) during Fall and Winter semesters
  • Candidate must have right to work in the US and not require current or future sponsorship
