The objective of the Student Programs at Nexteer Automotive is to select students with high potential and provide them with "real world" work experiences. Work assignments expose students to many of the company’s products, processes, procedures, problems, resources, staff areas and people so that they become aware of the career opportunities at Nexteer Automotive. Assignments are designed to assimilate acquired classroom education with actual hands-on work experience in a technical environment. In addition, Nexteer Automotive gains the opportunity to find new talent to enhance productivity.

 

We are looking for an inquisitive, highly self-motivated individual who is eager to learn and has good attention to detail and time management skills.  This position is responsible for electric drive control analysis, modeling, calibration, test and verification for electromechanical actuators and sensors.  This position allows the candidate to see the development of the project – from requirements to concept.  The ideal candidate will be eager to apply and explore their skills in simulation, implementation and test.

 

Primary Job Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for motor control system analysis, modeling, and design for electric drive systems
  • Calibrates and verifies motor control system characteristics and performance
  • Validation of motor control characteristics on laboratory dynamometers
  • Verifies and calibrates modeling tools and corrects deficiencies in designs and prototypes

 

Requirements:

  • Candidate must be attending Saginaw Valley State University (SVSU) or a local university to Nexteer
    • Candidate must enroll in SVSU Co-op Program through Cardinal Career Network
  • Candidate must be studying Bachelor of Science (or equivalent degree) in Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering
  • Candidate must be able to work 20-32 hours during Fall and Winter semesters and up to 40 in the summer
  • Must have cumulative 2.7 GPA
  • Must be a full-time student (12 or more credits)
  • Candidate must have right to work in the US and not require current or future sponsorship
  • Strong understanding of electrical engineering fundamentals
  • Knowledge of motor control and power electronics preferred
  • Strong computer skills, and knowledge of simulation tools (e.g. Matlab/Simulink) is required
  • General competency in operating electrical laboratory equipment
  • Excellent problem-solving techniques
  • Knowledge of system synthesis, analysis and verification techniques
  • Good organization and documentation abilities
  • Ability to manage & support multiple activities (time management skills)
  • Strong work ethic
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and with others
  • Proficiency with Microsoft office tools (Excel, Word, Powerpoint)
