Systems Engineer - Modeling & Simulation (2022)

At Nexteer, we are focused on Intuitive Motion Control solutions which are completely customer centric.  This position is focused on understanding core functionality of EPS systems and modelling/simulating system behaviors with correlation to vehicle. The ideal candidate has experience with Matlab/Simulink, knowledge of embedded systems and controls, and vehicle dynamics. Success involves technical knowledge and the ability to function across a diverse project team. Understanding of systems engineering processes is preferable.  Partial remote work possibilities.



  • Creation of simulation tool to support algorithm and calibration development, including sensors, actuators, software, vehicle
  • Design and develop simulation methodology, model verification and design validation
  • Perform correlation between simulation and real system
  • Assists in system testing and verification activities
  • Support and manage system model change control
  • Provide simulation input to new business pursuit, and interface with customers as needed
  • Participate in adding new model content and model peer reviews
  • Stay abreast of developments in virtual simulation techniques
  • Explain simulation projects in review board discussions
  • Provide support and input to safety team for early core safety strategy analysis including fault injection testing
  • Work with cross functional teams to address virtual engineering requests


Required Skills:

  • Proficient in modeling and simulation with Matlab/Simulink
  • Experience with model-based design, model-in-the-loop testing
  • General controls knowledge
  • Competency in mechanical systems, electronic systems, electrical hardware, software, and automotive systems
  • Knowledge of verification and validation techniques
  • Experience with C, C++, Python
  • Good organization and documentation abilities



  • Experience with embedded systems calibrations and importing into Simulink
  • Experience with embedded system Simulink models, including s-function creation and software design models
  • Knowledge of vehicle dynamics (steering, braking, suspension, driveline), mechanical systems, electronic systems, and computer hardware and software
  • Knowledge of vehicle dynamics software tools such as CarSim/Carmaker
  • Matlab/Simulink GUI and automation
  • Understanding and application of ISO26262, IEC 61508 or similar
  • Understanding of systems engineering “V” and how simulation fits into the overall process
  • Knowledge of model based systems engineering (MBSE)
  • Excellent problem definition and solving techniques
  • Excellent communication skills and a desire to work with people
  • Background in ride and handling of cars and possess valid driver’s license 


Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering with 2 years experience
  • Master’s in Electrical, Mechanical, or Systems Engineering


Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time
