Nexteer Automotive is looking for an inquisitive, highly self motivated individual who is eager to learn and has good attention to detail and time management skills.  This position is responsible for motor control and sensing analysis, modeling and application of motor control and motor sensing for electronic steering systems.  This position allows the candidate to see the full lifecycle of the project – from requirements to design to testing to implementation to production.  The ideal candidate will be eager to learn about motor control systems, signals, and software.


Job Description:

  • Applies core motor control function and sensors to specific customer applications, including design verification, calibration, and release for production.
  • Verifies and calibrates motor control and motor sensor performance, including torque control, power management, and thermal management.
  • Testing and validation of motor control and motor sensor subsystem requirements.
  • Understands and creates processes and procedures for motor control and motor sensor application.
  • Diagnoses and corrects deficiencies in designs and prototypes.
  • Understands test machine requirements and instrumentation.
  • Support for motor control and motor sensing subsystem analysis, modeling, and design for electronic steering systems.
  • Designs and optimizes simultaneous system performance goals through requirements flow down.
  • Effectively integrates all aspects of a design through the use of multi-disciplinary engineering.
  • Understands and creates system and subsystem specifications.
  • Assists in maintaining cost controls.
  • Stays abreast with new technology.

Job Requirements:

  • 0 – 5 years of work experience in related field preferred.
  • Strong computer skills and knowledge of simulation tools (e.g. Matlab/Simulink, LabView) is required.
  • General competency in all core fields (electronics, electromagnetics, computer hardware and software) is preferred.
  • Background in automotive engineering and chassis systems (steering, braking, suspension) is preferred.
  • Excellent problem solving techniques.
  • Knowledge of system synthesis, analysis and verification techniques.
  • Good organization and documentation abilities.
  • Must be able to view a computer screen or monitor for extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to sit or stand for extended periods of time.



BS in Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering required with emphasis in electric machines and drives, magnetic sensing subsystems, embedded systems, and/or electromagnetics preferred.
