Systems Safety Engineer

     Missions:

 

  • Application of the ISO26262 functional safety process to Electric Power Steering systems for various customer programs in Europe in quote phases, development and production stages.

Support the full lifecycle of the safety process - from concept and requirements through design and analysis to testing and implementation.

 

      Key responsibilities and authorities:

 

  • Employee’s awareness of their impact on product quality and the importance of their activities in achieving, maintaining, and improving quality, including customer requirements and the risks involved for the customer with non-conforming product.
  • Lead system safety analysis activities for assigned Electric Power Steering Projects
  • Interface directly with OEM safety engineers throughout the product development cycle (safety work product reviews, distributed development etc.)
  • Support the development of ISO26262 compliant processes and work products for Nexteer (System Safety Program Plan, Preliminary Hazard Analysis, Safety Requirements, Safety Analysis including FMEDA and FTA, and Safety Verification and Validation activities)
  • Specify safety strategies and requirements for system architecture, including safety concept, failure management and driver-warning strategies
  • Support development of robust, fail-safe, or fault tolerant architectures and components to satisfy safety requirements
  • Specify detailed safety requirements, including diagnostic, hardware & software requirements
  • Specify and monitor specific safety tests, including fault injection testing
  • Develop safety related calibrations and support their verification phase prior to calibration release
  • Perform and document safety assessments
  • Participate in System Safety Working Group
  • Stay abreast of new technology
  • Feed the Nexteer central organization with European OEM perspective on ISO26262
  • Represent Nexteer & promote technology in industry events and conferences

 

     Qualifications required:

     

I Education:

 

  • Bachelor – Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or Functional safety engineering degree

 

II Experience:

 

  • Minimum 2-3 years experience
  • Successful experience of managing a safety program and delivering ISO26262 standard work products (Safety program planning, FSC, TSC, FMEDA, FTAs, DFMEAs…)
  • Background in automotive engineering and chassis systems (steering, braking, suspension) is preferred

 

III Skills/Training:

 

  • Excellent organization and documentation abilities
  • Excellent communication skills and a desire to work with people
  • Knowledge of system engineering, requirements engineering and verification techniques
  • Awareness of ISO 26262 and IEC 61508 systems safety standards
  • Strong computer skills, especially in spreadsheets (Microsoft Excel) and knowledge of simulation tools (e.g. Matlab/Simulink)
  • Knowledge of requirements & safety analysis tools (DOORS, medini analyze, Reliability Workbench Fault Tree Plus, etc.) is preferred
  • General competency in all core mechatronics fields (embedded systems, computer hardware and software, electronics, controls, vehicle dynamics, mechanical) is preferred
  • Knowledge of project management processes and tools is preferred
  • Opportunity to conduct or support vehicle testing & bench testing of steering systems
  • Willingness to travel to customer sites (France) & Nexteer facilities (Germany, France, Italy, Poland, USA). Est. 1/week every 2 months in average
