Entry Level Control Algorithm Developer (2023)

Nexteer is seeking a control algorithm developer.  This role involves development and analysis of features related to steering comfort, vehicle performance, and ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems).  The scope includes creating system models in Simulink, designing algorithms, prototyping, calibrating, testing, and analysis.  Additional responsibility involves ensuring that the design is closed loop stable, so we are strongly seeking a candidate who desires to further their education in controls.  The ideal candidate has experience with MATLAB, Simulink, CAN communication, as well as interest towards doing hands-on work in the vehicle or test bench.  Other focuses include root causing and debugging software so the ability to read C code is desired. This position interacts with both internal and external customers to ensure deadlines and requirements are met.  This position is eligible for hybrid work onsite/remote.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for creating steering system models in Simulink
  • Responsible for the design and testing of the control algorithms/features of steering systems
  • Perform development of calibrations for new and existing functions to achieve required system performance
  • Perform design and analysis using dynamic system modeling and simulation
  • Provide guidance to system design and validation, including requirements flow down
  • Provide diagnosis of performance issues through data-based root cause analysis, with proposed solutions
  • Use rapid prototyping tools for development
  • Effectively integrates all aspects of system design through the use of multi-disciplinary engineering
  • Provides technical leadership for projects incorporating complex electromechanical (“Mechatronic”) systems
  • Assists in maintaining cost controls
  • Stays abreast of developments in motion control techniques

 

Requirements:

  • Experience performing engineering simulations/calculations using MATLAB/Simulink
  • General controls knowledge
  • Software programming experience using C, C++
  • Knowledge of CAN communication tools, such as Vector CANape
  • Good organization and documentation abilities
  • Enjoy driving and evaluating vehicles and possess a valid driver license

 

Preferred:

  • Excellent problem solving techniques (Shainin Red X, DFSS, etc.)
  • Knowledge of vehicle dynamics (steering, braking, suspension, driveline), mechanical systems, electronic systems, and computer hardware and software
  • Background in ride and handling of cars
  • Experience with model-based design, model-in-the-loop testing
  • Knowledge of verification and validation techniques
  • Knowledge of classical control theory
  • Experience with rapid prototyping tools such as the Mathworks Embedded Coder and dSpace MicroAutoBox
  • Experience in DFMEA, IEC 61508, ISO 26262, and MISRA software guidelines is
  • Working knowledge of IBM Jazz Toolsuite
  • Familiarity with automotive cyber security methodologies

 

Education:

Bachelor’s Degree – Electrical, Mechanical, or Computer Engineering

 

Physical Requirements:

Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time
