The objective of the Student Programs at Nexteer Automotive is to select students with high potential and provide them with "real world" work experiences. Work assignments expose students to many of the company’s products, processes and procedures. Assignments are designed to assimilate acquired classroom education with actual hands-on work experience in a technical environment. In addition, Nexteer Automotive gains the opportunity to find new talent to enhance productivity while providing students exposure to full-time career opportunities.

 

 

Examples of Projects a Student Could Work On:

  • Research new/improved assembly processes
  • Assist with virtual simulations of new assembly and test processes
  • Support Engineers on processing and reviewing data
  • Lead Kaizen activities to eliminate waste in cycle time, staffing, workplace organization and overall manufacturing efficiency
  • Work on or with assembly, machining, plastics, automation and/or process equipment
  • Design tooling and fixtures to support the manufacturing process, prepare documentation to support, and timely communication of the process
  • Coordinate with Engineers for timely completion of project tasks
  • Conduct trial tests with attention to detail and information integrity
  • Regular contact and communication with other work groups and suppliers outside of Manufacturing Engineering
  • Lead and own project initiatives and metrics/requirements
  • Coordinate with vendors and internal customers

 

Please note, projects mentioned above are a general overview of our internship program.  Exact project assignments will not be given until 4-6 weeks before the start of your internship. 

 


JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be attending an accredited 4-year University
  • Enrolled in a Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology or Electrical Engineering Technology program
  • Minimum 2.7 GPA on a 4.0 scale
  • Demonstrated attention to detail and documentation
  • High level of interpersonal skills to work effectively with others
  • Technical knowledge of mechanical principles
  • High level of analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Timely and accurate project management
  • Demonstrated ability to manage projects and coordinate multiple activities
  • Demonstrated commitment to a disciplined approach on projects
  • Good oral & communication skills to work in a collaborative team environment
  • Knowledge / Expertise in the following:  Microsoft Office Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Candidate must be able to work in the US without current or future sponsorship
