Powerhouse Operations Supervisor

Responsible for the daily operation and maintenance of steam generating and compressed air machinery and equipment.  Work is performed independently with decisions made within the limits of general practices, standards and procedures as well to respond and rectify unusual situations.


Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and schedule employees across a 3-shift operation that supplies uninterrupted supply of steam and compressed air 365 days/year requiring availability of “on call” status.
  • Establish maintenance and operational procedures of equipment to accommodate service.
  • Procure necessary parts, services, etc. for powerhouse operation.
  • Handle special projects and recommend solutions to operating problems in the powerhouse.
  • Comply to necessary licensing as well as environmental audits and standards.
  • Control labor, maintenance and operational costs.
  • Maintain safe work practices and housekeeping standards.
  • Maintain knowledge and comply with terms of labor agreement.
  • Participate in energy reduction activities and provide opportunities to customers.

Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of powerhouse and compressed air equipment and plant energy systems.
  • Knowledge of PLC systems and relationship to boiler, compressor and energy management operation.
  • Knowledge of chemistry as it applies to boiler and cooling tower water.
  • Relatively high level of analytical ability where problems can be complex.
  • Interpersonal skills to work effectively with others, motivate employees and elicit work output.
  • Oral and written communication skills.

Education and/or Training

  • Bachelor’s Degree in business or engineering and/or equivalent training
  • 5 years or more of Powerhouse Management experience.
  • Stationary Engineer License preferred
