Product Engineer - REPS Core Mechanical (2018)

The Rack-Assisted Electric Power Steering (REPS) group is at Nexteer Automotive is looking for an experienced Product Engineer who is eager to work in a team environment that is both analytical and hands on.   Product Engineers are the “hub of the wheel”; they are assigned to a program and become the program expert.  A world class global engineering environment and test facilities are examples of the tools and resources available at Nexteer to ensure successful project execution.

 

Nexteer has a position available in the area of REPS product engineering with a concentration in mechanical product design and analysis.  The ideal candidate will be quality and cost driven with good attention to detail.

 

Major Job Responsibilities:

  • Core component owner for Rack-Assisted Electric Power Steering  ball screw assemblies and components
  • Responsible for core template drawings
  • Responsible for core template DFMEA and DSS
  • Support cost reduction initiatives
  • Perform design analysis including component and subassembly stacks using GD&T
  • Perform stress analysis for Rack-Assisted Electric Power Steering  ball circuits
  • On-time delivery of projects while meeting or exceeding all initial project criteria
  • Work collaboratively with manufacturing engineering to develop lowest cost designs
  • Work with Global Supply Management and Advanced Supplier Quality to implement new programs
  • Assist application groups with implementation of new programs
  • Support manufacturing
  • Stays abreast of new technology
  • Timely communication of project status and relevant issues.
  • Regular contact with others outside the work group.
  • Support continuous improvement activities.

 

Job Requirements:

  • Minimum of 5 years experience in the areas below
  • Ability to learn and understand the fundamentals of ball circuit design
  • High level of analytical ability where problems are unusual and difficult
  • High level of interpersonal skills to work effectively with others
  • Ability to evaluate various technology alternatives to achieve project goals, especially design and process trade-offs
  • Demonstrated ability to manage projects and coordinate multi-functional activities.
  • Sensitivity to issues working in a global environment: - communications / coordination / culture / language.
  • Good oral & written skills.
  • Must be able to lift parts up to 10#
  • Must possess a valid driver license and be able to drive
  • Must be able to walk through a manufacturing environment
  • Must be able to work in a laboratory/testing environment

 

Preferred:

  • Good working knowledge of GD&T
  • Ability to perform dimensional limit stack analysis using GD&T
  • Knowledge of the Rack-Assisted Electric Power Steering gear product design and/or manufacturing processes preferred
  • Knowledge / expertise in the following:  Microsoft Office, problem solving techniques

 

Education:

Degree: Bachelor (Masters preferred)

Major: Mechanical Engineering

Must possess a 2.7+ GPA

Must be able to work in the US without requiring sponsorship (immediate or future)
