Position Description

Nexteer is looking for an inquisitive, highly self-motivated individual who is eager to learn and has good attention to detail and time management skills.  This position is responsible for application of torque control, power management, and thermal management for powerpacks (electric motor, sensors, controller, software) included in electronic steering systems.  This position allows the candidate to see the full lifecycle of the project – from requirements to design through testing to implementation in production for assigned customer programs.  The ideal candidate will be eager to learn about motor control systems, signals, and software.  This position requires a bachelor’s degree, but we are very interested in candidates looking to further their education possibly with the assistance of Nexteer. 

The systems engineer will work cross functionally with multiple internal teams (i.e. software, requirements, mechanical, validation) to successfully take a product from concept to production. 

 

Job Description

  • Understands and creates system and subsystem specifications.
  • Designs and optimizes simultaneous system performance goals through requirements analysis and flow down.
  • Applies core powerpack designs to specific customer projects, including design verification, calibration, and release for production.
  • Verifies and calibrates torque control, power management, and thermal management functions to meet system requirements.
  • Support technology development, innovation, efficiency and process improvement activities.
  • Diagnoses and corrects deficiencies in designs and prototypes.
  • Works cross functionally with multiple internal teams (i.e. software, requirements, mechanical, electrical, validation) to successfully take a product from concept to production. 
  • Support technology development, innovation, efficiency and process improvement activities.
  • Developing core processes and procedures to support efficient project execution.
  • Understands test machine requirements and instrumentation.
  • Stays abreast of new technology by attending conferences, company supported training, and education.

 

Job Requirements

  • 3+ years of relevant engineering experience
  • Must have valid US driver’s license.
  • Must be able to make quick physical maneuvers while driving
  • Strong computer skills (MS Office, specifically Excel) and knowledge of simulation tools (Matlab/Simulink).
  • General competency in all core fields from industry or academia (electronics, electromagnetics, computer hardware and software).
  • Demonstrated structured problem-solving techniques.
  • Knowledge of system synthesis, analysis and verification techniques.
  • Excellent organization, planning, and documentation abilities.
  • Must be able to view a computer screen or monitor for extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to sit or stand for extended periods of time.

 

Preferred

  • Background in automotive engineering and chassis systems (steering, braking, suspension) is preferred.
  • LabView
  • PMP (Project Management Professional) certification
  • Advanced (Masters / PhD) degree in technical or management area.
  • Six-Sigma, Fast-X, 8-D, or similar certification and experience in efficient problem solving.
  • Significant experience taking engineering projects, features, and functions from concept through production implementation.
  • Applicants with an emphasis in electric machines and drives, controls, magnetic sensing subsystems, embedded systems and/or electromagnetics preferred.

Science (Computer Science, Applied Physics, Engineering Physics, Physics)
