Entry Level Systems Integration Engineer (2022)

Nexteer Automotive is looking for a system engineer with a diverse skill set who enjoys developing & integrating EPS (Electric Power Steering) systems. A primary focus of this position is to lead the elicitation of requirements, and to collaborate with the organization to have them understood, developed & integrated into the overall system and vehicle. The ideal candidate would enjoy working in a vehicle, performing calibration & algorithm development that improves the overall driving experience. This candidate would also enjoy working within a team-orientated environment and being provided the challenge of troubleshooting complex Mechatronic Systems.

 

In this role you will:

  • Own the integration of mechanical, electrical hardware, software, and controls of the Electronic Power Steering System into the vehicle
  • Have opportunities to support the development of our products from pursuit of business through product launch and current production
  • Be exposed to a rapidly changing business environment and be a focal point of our effort to develop solutions to grow within that environment
  • Lead technical discussions with a customer on a diverse set of topics, from advanced industry-leading vehicle feature development to the launch of major programs into the vehicle manufacturing environment
  • Work with cross-functional teams in the swift development of new algorithms and system designs for complex features that enhance the overall driving experience and system performance
  • Support system-level HIL (Hardware-in-the-Loop) testing and simulation modeling techniques by establishing performance criteria prior to vehicle integration
  • Work with program management on impact assessment of change requests

 

Job Requirements

  • Experience performing engineering calculations using Matlab/Simulink and spreadsheets (Microsoft Excel)
  • Excellent communication skills and a desire to work with people
  • Enjoy driving and evaluating vehicles
  • Good organization and documentation abilities
  • Must be able to drive a vehicle and possess a valid driver license
  • Must be able to make quick physical maneuvers while driving
  • Must be able to lift / physically move parts weighing up to 35 pounds

 

Preferred:

  • Have a fundamental understanding of the engineering V model
  • Ability to read software programming in C, C# and Visual Basic
  • Model based design experience using Simulink
  • Fundamental understanding of vehicle dynamics, mechanical systems, electronic systems, and computer hardware and software
  • Background in automotive engineering and chassis systems (steering, braking, suspension)
  • Experience with formal problem-solving techniques (i.e. Shainin Red X, DFSS, 3L5Y)
  • Knowledge of system synthesis, analysis, and verification techniques
  • Familiarity with project management processes

 

Education:

  • Required – Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or Computer Science/Computer Science Engineering
  • Minimum cumulative GPA requirement of 2.7
  • Must have the right to work in the US without sponsorship
