Our summer internship program offers students valuable full-time professional experience in both technical and non-technical fields related to their area of study. Work assignments span a variety of functional areas, catering to each student’s academic background and career interests. Internships typically last 12 to 16 weeks, taking place between May and August.

Co-Op Program

Our co-op program provides students with a valuable opportunity to gain practical work experience while pursuing their full-time college education. With a diverse range of work assignments across various functions, students can explore career areas aligned with their interests. To strike a healthy balance between work and education, Nexteer supervisors collaborate with students to determine the number of hours they will work each semester.

Internship Program Details

Duration: 12-16 weeks (Typically between May and August)

Professional Development

Nexteer provides interns challenging opportunities to gain practical working experiences in their area of study. There are many opportunities to network with leadership and other professionals in all areas of the business and to learn more about our full-time positions available upon graduation. In addition, we offer resume reviews and mock interview workshops as additional professional development.

EPS Driven

Nexteer offers the opportunity for interns and students to participate in EPS Driven. In this popular event, teams of students are given a battery, motor, budget, and the creative freedom to design and build a safe, drivable go-kart to race at the end of the summer. Watch a video about EPS Driven.

Post-Program Placement

Summer interns who prove themselves as exceptional may be offered the opportunity to return to Nexteer as a summer intern the following summer or be given the opportunity to interview for full-time employment opportunities.

Scholarship Opportunities

All interns are eligible to apply for scholarships offered during the summer months. A variety of scholarships are offered to include all degree programs.

Compensation & Benefits

  • All internships are paid positions.
  • Interns who attend a 4-year university are eligible to enroll in medical benefits. Interns may be eligible for relocation reimbursement. Housing is also provided to interns who meet specific eligibility requirements.

General Details

  • Start Date: We work with each intern individually to select a mutually agreeable start date.
  • Orientation: All interns attend orientation on their first day of employment. Orientation includes completing paperwork to begin the internship, along with learning more about Nexteer’s Internship Program, company policies, etc.
  • Requirements & Qualifications: Intern candidates are identified as being 18+ years of age, having a favorable GPA, with demonstrated leadership and communication abilities, are able to work on a cross-functional team, as well as have a passion for their area of study. Interns are selected from various universities across the United States.

CO-OP Program Details

  • Working Hours: Co-ops are eligible to work between 20-32 hours per week during the Fall and Winter semesters. Co-ops are offered the opportunity to work up to 40 hours per week anytime school is not in session, which includes spring, summer, fall and winter breaks.
  • Orientation: All co-ops attend orientation on their first day of employment. Orientation includes completing paperwork to begin employment, along with learning more about Nexteer’s Student Program, company policies, etc.
  • Programs & Qualifications: Co-ops are identified as being 18+ years of age, having a favorable GPA, with demonstrated leadership and communication abilities, are able to work on a cross-functional team, as well as have a passion for their area of study. Co-ops are selected from various universities located within driving distance to Nexteer Automotive locations in Auburn Hills or Saginaw, Michigan.
