About the Role
As a Commodity Buyer, you will play a critical role in sourcing, negotiating, and managing supplier relationships. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure the timely and cost-effective procurement of your assigned commodities while maintaining the highest standards of quality and reliability and ensuring that supply base meets cost, quality, launch and delivery commitments.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead full sourcing process with activities as RFQ/RFI, technical reviews and obtain Council approval for new business awards.
- Works in cooperation with other Nexteer functions to make the best supplier selection for Nexteer.
- Conducting market research to identify potential suppliers and products that meet the organization's needs.
- Negotiates contracts for prices and terms with outside suppliers for new and carryover components.
- Develops and maintains commodity strategies in cooperation with other regions and in alignment with organizational needs and targets.
- Follows market price trends and general business activities.
- Manages supplier commercial issues.
- Ensures compliance to GSM Policies and Procedures.
- Establishes Annual Material Budget and performs monthly budget analysis.
- Works with suppliers and Nexteer resources to identify, develop and implement material cost savings.
- Develop new suppliers/disruptors to properly support the needs of each product line.
- Negotiate, implement and maintain up to date prices per material contracts with supply base in alignment with customer agreements.
Qualifications
- 3+ years of experience in the automotive industry in purchasing of direct material.
- Experience in commodity purchasing like Forgings, Driveline, Stampings, Rubber or Plastics.
- Able to function independently with minimal supervision & technical guidance.
- Excellent negotiation skills.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills & interpersonal skills to work effectively with others.
- Good organization and documentation abilities.
- Working knowledge of MS office.
- Ability to read blueprints and understand basic engineering documents.
- Strong knowledge of the specific commodities, materials, and products being purchased.
- High analytical ability in complex situations with a strong knowledge of Purchasing strategies & skills.
- Must be able to travel up to 15%
Education Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Engineering or any other relevant field
