The Advance Software Engineering at Nexteer Automotive team continues to grow and evolve as we are working with multiple customers in support of their development of demonstration vehicles and design requirements.  At the same time the team is developing and refining our own production-intent designs for offering on anticipated upcoming requests for new business quotes. 


The Embedded System Software Developer is responsible for the overall advance software development including understanding technical requirements from the customer or internal team, system software implementation, verification of software function and work with cross functional teams. The successful candidate will have related experience software highly implementing safety critical embedded system.


This position provides the opportunity to develop next generation highly safety critical embedded technology which could result in patents. The candidate will work with a highly motivated multiple product line team for design and implement lowest cost safety critical software solution.

In this role, the Embedded System Software Developer will work with Autosar Software Component Implementation, function design, Matlab Autocode Implementation & Software Integration, Serial Communication Implementation, Software Integration, trouble-shoot software issue, Tool development, Embedded hardware, and Microsoft Office.


 Job Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement embedded software solutions following automotive standard and development process.
  • Review and understand Technical References and Data Sheets for the system’s microcontroller.
  • Interface with cross-functional teams to understand requirements and review designs.
  • Design and implement world class embedded software using C in compliance with ISO 26262.
  • Perform software function unit and integration testing.
  • Participate in and lead design reviews.
  • Participate in software process improvement activities.
  • Participate software planning activities.
  • Interact with both internal and external customers to ensure deadlines and requirements are met.


 Job Requirements:

  • Embedded software development experience 
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills (English)
  • Ability to work well in a team environment
  • Ability to learn quickly on the job



  • Experience with software coding using C language
  • Experience with debugging and problem resolution
  • Experience with cross compilers and cross assemblers
  • Experience with 8-bit, 16-bit or 32-bit microcontrollers and common peripherals (i.e., ADC, SPI)
  • Familiarity with MCAL Driver
  • Familiarity with multi-core/multi-processor products development
  • Familiarity with software development techniques and methodologies
  • Familiarity with Vector based analysis and development tools
  • Familiarity with Automotive communication protocols development and debugging (i.e., CAN, Flexray, LIN, CANFD, Ethernet)
  • Familiarity with standard software development environments (IDE)
  • Familiarity with requirements tools (i.e., DOORS)
  • Familiarity with MISRA standards and verification tools
  • Familiarity with Matlab / Simulink
  • Familiarity with the software safety mechanisms such as memory protection units and watchdogs
  • Familiarity with basic lab equipment
  • Familiarity with configurable management tools (i.e. SVN, Git, IBM Rational Synergy)
  • Familiarity with software static analysis tools such as QAC and Polyspace
  • Proficient with Microsoft office tools (Excel, Word, Powerpoint, Visio. Teams)
  • Familiar with Agile development methodology



  • Bachelor - Electrical Engineer/ Computer Engineer/Computer Science/Embedded Systems and 5+ years of experience (Required) or 
  • Master - Electrical Engineer/ Computer Engineer/Computer Science/Embedded Systems (Required )
