The objective of the Student Programs at Nexteer Automotive is to select students with high potential and provide them with "real world" work experiences. Work assignments expose students to many of the company’s products, processes and procedures. Assignments are designed to assimilate acquired classroom education with actual hands-on work experience in a technical environment. In addition, Nexteer Automotive gains the opportunity to find new talent to enhance productivity while providing students exposure to full-time career opportunities.

 

Job Requisition Introductory Paragraph:

This position will allow the Student to focus on electric propulsion drive within the R&D department at Nexteer. Student will have the opportunity to work in developing the electric drive module (EDM) system used in vehicle propulsion system and to run analysis of the model to correlate with actual tests. In this position, the student will work closely with other individuals with expertise in electric machine and inverter design as well as thermal management and transmission system for electric vehicle utilizing FEA and MATLAB/Simulink tools. It will be required to report results to upper-level management with an effective liaison between state-of-the-art proposals for research and tangible ideas for product development that will allow the student to enhance their leadership skills in an industry-focused research environment.

 

Primary Job Responsibilities:

  • Develops models of electric machines, inverters, battery pack etc for analytical, numerical and system level analysis.
  • Develops and supports MATLAB/Python-based scripts for simulation automation.
  • Develops new methods to support modeling, analysis and optimization of electric drive module. 
  • Verifies and calibrates modeling tools and corrects deficiencies in designs and prototypes
  • Participates in the integration of multidisciplinary components for system simulation.
  • Ensures thorough literature searches on the addressed topics.
  • Communicates technical outcomes in oral presentations and written reports.

 

Requirements:

  • Candidate must be pursuing MS or PhD Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent program with emphasis on electrical machines & drives for propulsion application.
  • Candidate must have a 2.7 GPA on 4.0 scale
  • Knowledge of Permanent Magnet Synchronous and Induction machines, MOSFET/IGBT based inverters, battery packs of HEV/EV.
  • Knowledge of MATLAB/Simulink utilizing control, and power toolboxes for system level simulation.
  • Experience with programming/scripting languages such as Python and MATLAB.
  • Experience with FEA software such as ANSYS work bench, Altair Hyper works / Flux etc.
  • Finite element method for low frequency electromagnetics.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to develop practical engineering solutions to difficult problems.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
