The objective of the Student Programs at Nexteer Automotive is to select students with high potential and provide them with "real world" work experiences. Work assignments expose students to many of the company’s products, processes and procedures. Assignments are designed to assimilate acquired classroom education with actual hands-on work experience in a technical environment. In addition, Nexteer Automotive gains the opportunity to find new talent to enhance productivity while providing students exposure to full-time career opportunities.

 

We are looking for an inquisitive and self-motivated individual who is eager to learn and contribute to advanced technology development in motion control systems. The candidate should possess good attention to detail, be creative, and possess good time management skills. This position is for advanced technology development in the areas of motor control, communications peripherals, and efficiency-improving tools for a multitude of motion control products including electric power steering, steer by wire, and vehicle communication networks.  The ideal candidate would have experience with automotive coding standards and network communication layers realized on embedded hardware but also have an interest in a multidisciplinary learning environment encompassing controls, systems, and electrical engineering.

 

Description

  • Responsible for design and implementation of communication interfaces between automotive electronic control units.
  • Responsible for refinement of existing automation tools and creation of new tools or graphic user interfaces using scripting languages such as VBA or Python.
  • Responsible for implementation of software solutions to other unique motion control problems.
  • Perform guided self-study to understand, implement, and convey new technology concepts.
  • Create documentation and specifications for newly designed software components as needed.
  • Optimize system performance goals through requirements flow down.
  • Test, validate, and refine project work in an embedded system or other environment representative of real use case.
  • Integrate all aspects of a design through the use of multidisciplinary engineering.

 

Requirements

  • Strong understanding of the C programming language.
  • Strong computer skills and knowledge of simulation tools (e.g. Matlab/Simulink)
  • Experience with Visual Basic and other scripting languages such as Python.
  • Ability to structure code according to general standards and best practices.
  • Experience with implementing software in embedded system applications.
  • General competency in all core fields (mechanical, electronics, electromagnetics, computer hardware and software).
  • Knowledge of system synthesis, analysis, and verification techniques.
  • Proven ability to create new designs, products, and systems through innovation.
  • Excellent problem definition and solving techniques.
  • Good organization and documentation abilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and with others in a multidisciplinary team.
  • Must be able to sit and stand for extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to look at computer screen/monitor for extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to perform hands-on work as needed to accomplish goals.
  • (Preferred) Background in automotive engineering and/or automotive communication protocols (including CAN and Automotive Ethernet) and network layers
  • (Preferred) Experience with AUTOSAR standards

 

Education

  • M.S. or Ph.D. in Computer, Software, Electrical, Communication, or Automotive Engineering.
  • Candidate must be pursuing a M.S. or Ph.D. in Electrical, Mechanical, Aerospace or Automotive Engineering.
  • Candidate must have a 2.7 GPA on 4.0 scale
