2023 Plastics Engineering Summer Internship

The objective of the Student Programs at Nexteer Automotive is to select students with high potential and provide them with "real world" work experiences. Work assignments expose students to many of the company’s products, processes and procedures. Assignments are designed to assimilate acquired classroom education with actual hands-on work experience in a technical environment. In addition, Nexteer Automotive gains the opportunity to find new talent to enhance productivity while providing students exposure to full-time career opportunities.


Job Responsibilities: 

  • Support Engineers in gathering, processing, and reviewing data
  • Develop Machine Qualification plans for new molds
  • Complete gage qualification studies
  • Participate in mold design reviews
  • Coordinate machine qualification runs with process engineers
  • Timely communication of project status and relevant issues
  • Create presentations to communicate findings
  • Coordinate with vendors and internal customers
  • Work with hand tools and test equipment to complete experimental testing


Job Qualifications

  • Candidate must be attending a 4-year university
  • Candidate must be pursuing a degree in Plastics Engineering
  • Candidate must have a minimum 2.7 GPA on 4.0 scale
  • Candidate must be enrolled in 12 credits (full time status) for the upcoming Fall semester
  • Demonstrated attention to detail and documentation
  • High level of analytical ability where problems are unusual and difficult
  • High level of interpersonal skills to work effectively with others
  • Technical knowledge with plastic machine, tool, and die design
  • Technical knowledge of injection molding process, mold machines, and molds
  • Knowledge of product design standards for plastic components
  • Knowledge of GD&T is preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to manage projects and coordinate multiple activities
  • Demonstrated commitment to a disciplined approach on projects
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal & written
  • Knowledge / Expertise in the following: Microsoft Office, Problem Solving Techniques, CAD software; Optional: Moldflow
