The objective of the Student Programs at Nexteer Automotive is to select students with high potential and provide them with "real world" work experiences. Work assignments expose students to many of the company’s products, processes and procedures. Assignments are designed to assimilate acquired classroom education with actual hands-on work experience in a technical environment. About The Role:
This Business co‑op position provides an opportunity for students pursuing a business related degree to gain meaningful, hands on experience within Nexteer’s Strategic Engineering organization. In this role, the student will support various aspects of Intellectual Property (IP) case management while working closely with engineering and business teams. The position offers exposure to process improvement, data tracking and reporting, budget coordination, training support, vendor interaction, and general program administration. This experience is designed to help students build practical skills in organization, communication, analysis, and project coordination within a professional engineering environment.
General Job Duties:
- Assist with filing and maintaining innovation records throughout the IP lifecycle
- Support the Inventor Recognition Program, including reviewing eligibility, tracking awards, ordering plaques, and coordinating related activities
- Coordinate and schedule training sessions on IP topics
- Assist with managing budgets, purchase orders, and communication with external service providers
- Support the development and maintenance of forms, documentation, and process improvements
- Prepare agendas and supporting materials for Patent Review Board meetings
- Participate in occasional offsite activities or events that may occur outside traditional hours
- Assist with additional projects as assigned
Requirements:
- Candidate must be attending a 2 year college or 4 year university local to Saginaw
- Candidate must be pursuing a degree in Business or Business-Related Field,
- Engineering and Liberal Arts degrees will be considered with interest and aptitude of subject matter
- Strong organizational skills, high attention to detail and professional
- Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with upmost integrity
- Ability to communicate effectively in a fast paced, multi-cultural environment.
- Must have a 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale
- Candidate must be able to work 20-32 hours during Fall and Winter semesters
- Up to 40 in the summer
- Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint and Excel)
- Must be a full-time student (12 or more credits) during Fall and Winter semesters
- Candidate must have right to work in the US and not require current or future sponsorship
