The objective of the Student Programs at Nexteer Automotive is to select students with high potential and provide them with "real world" work experiences.  Work assignments expose students to many of the company’s products, processes and procedures.  Assignments are designed to assimilate acquired classroom education with actual hands-on work experience in a technical environment.  In addition, Nexteer Automotive gains the opportunity to find new talent to enhance productivity while providing students exposure to full-time career opportunities.


Job Requisition Introductory Paragraph:

This position will allow the Student to work with the Core Controls System Engineering Team with numerous tasks to assist in the global procurement of equipment through specification and approval.  This position will include interaction with global engineering professionals while sharing information with colleagues in China, Poland, Mexico, Brazil, and Morocco.  The student will assist with the monitoring of several other key elements of global Spec and Approval to ensure perfect launches of various program platforms.  In this position, the Student will have the opportunity to work with upper-level management and enhance their leadership skills.  The student will be asked to complete other miscellaneous tasks as they arise. 


Primary Job Responsibilities:

The following are a portion of the responsibilities the candidate will be asked to perform:

  • Electrical Hardware Drawing Toolkit

Updates to specifications require updates to the CSE Electrical Hardware Drawing Toolkit.  This will also allow the group to work with new CAD software.

  • Safety PLC Development

Support the creating of hardware designs with integration into the PLC software for safety.  This will also include research and updates to SD-007 hardware selections.  A logic review / validation process will also need to be developed or added / amended to the Logic Review process.

  • CSE Tool Development

Develop a Stop Distance Calculation and Enclosure SCCR (Short-Circuit Current Rating – based on IEC and UL508A) forms to automate the calculation process.  This would be similar to CSE’s Controls Cabinet Heat Calc and Pneumatic Air Calc sheets.

  • PLC Design Reviews

Develop tools for comparing OEM Logic against Nexteer Logic Library.  This would automate a major portion of the Logic review process and will make the Team more efficient.

  • Traceability

Develop tools for creating / auto-applying Traceability Application and PLC Logic implementation from the Traceability Input Document.

  • Various Checklist Development

With the updates to several global specifications, CSE Checklists will all need to be updated. 

  • Construction Review Development

As Nexteer embraces remote runoff processes, CSE will need to strengthen the construction review documentation to add specifics for robot integration and specific processes.



  • Candidate must be attending a 2-year college or 4-year university local to Saginaw
  • Candidate must be pursuing a Bachelors in Electrical Engineering.
  • Candidate must be able to work 20-32 hours during Fall and Winter Semesters.
    • Candidate must be able to work up to 40 in the Summer.
  • Must have a cumulative 2.7 GPA on 4.0 scale.
  • Must be a full-time student (12 or more credits) during Fall and Winter Semesters.
  • Candidate must have the right to work in the US and not require current or future sponsorship.
