Description:
The Electric Power Steering (EPS) Powerpack Core CAE group at Nexteer Automotive is looking for an experienced FEA analyst who is eager to work in a team environment, assist, and evaluate steering actuators and electrical hardware components using finite element analysis tools and competencies. This role requires constant interaction with counterparts across regions and will interface with cross-functional teams at Nexteer Automotive including mechanical and thermal design, electrical hardware design, motor controls, systems, manufacturing and purchasing. Candidate must be a self-starter and willing to take on multiple projects with a desire to learn and grow with the team.
Major Job Responsibilities:
- Perform structural, vibrational, thermal and reliability analysis using Finite Element Analysis (FEA) simulation tools
- Conduct optimization studies using FEA tools for efficient design alternatives
- Work with validation engineers to mimic field tests and eventually minimize physical testing by conducting full scale simulations
- Perform design, material, and component trade-off studies and risk assessment
- Evaluate assembly operations using FEA tools
- Create technical documents including analysis reports, procedures, and guidelines
- Interface with customers and present the analysis results
- Utilize FEA modelling to make design recommendations to engineering teams
- Run reliability analysis and predict life expectancy of products
- Conduct validation studies that correlate simulation results to experimental tests and other numerical results with a particular focus on structural and product performance
- Drive the development of new technologies to improve quality, efficiency and reduce cost
- Develop and maintain a responsive and cooperative working relationship with internal and external customers.
- Perform other engineering support tasks as directed
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar field required (Master’s degree preferred)
- 2+ years of related work experience required
- Must have experience working on the model from start to finish, including but not limited to meshing, geometry clean-up, assigning boundary conditions and solving
- Proficient in FEA tools such as ABAQUS, Hypermesh and ANSYS (Required)
- Experience with FEA methods, including non-linear analysis of materials (Required)
- Working knowledge of CAD tools such as NX & Solidworks (Required)
- Strong understanding of fundamentals of structural mechanics, vibrations, thermo-mechanics, thermal fatigue, fracture, and statistics
- Basic knowledge of tool development languages such as Python, MS Excel – Visual Basic, etc.
- Exposure to electrical components, PCB hardware and connectors preferred
- Basic understanding of GD&T, drawing standards and mechanical stacks
- High level of analytical ability where problems are unusual or difficult
- High level of interpersonal skills to work effectively with others
- Demonstrate project leadership, good organization, and documentation skills
- Experience with ANSYS Sherlock is an asset
- Understanding of Design for reliability and manufacturing is a bonus
