The objective of the Student Programs at Nexteer Automotive is to select students with high potential and provide them with "real world" work experiences. Work assignments expose students to many of the company’s products, processes and procedures. Assignments are designed to assimilate acquired classroom education with actual hands-on work experience in a technical environment. In addition, Nexteer Automotive gains the opportunity to find new talent to enhance productivity while providing students exposure to full-time career opportunities.


Job Requisition Introductory Paragraph:

This position will involve assisting the Utilities Energy Management Group with daily activities. Daily activities will include:

  • Gathering utility usage data for Nexteer manufacturing plants to determine monthly utility cost allocation and submitting and auditing monthly utility bills
  • Utility tracking for Nexteer Global and Saginaw manufacturing locations to maintain information on the global utility website for performance purposes and providing data and graphs for each sites energy team
  • Student will be responsible to take part in conducting monthly global energy team meetings to enhance energy reduction efforts
  • In addition to assisting with daily activities there will be specific projects assigned that involve energy management through energy efficiency projects such as lighting, variable frequency drives, auditing, etc
  • Activities will also include site powerhouse exposure to plant steam and compressed air operations and maintain fuel and steam information
    • As the level of experience and knowledge of the plant grow the responsibilities will grow as well, based on the ability of the individual.


Special Skills Requirements:

  • The ideal candidate will be highly organized, self-motivated, have good communication skills, enjoy a variety of assignments, and take ownership of his/her responsibilities
  • Strongly prefer skills in: Microsoft Office products and Office 365 collaboration tools and familiarity to Auto Cad
  • Ability to overcome obstacles with a sense of urgency
  • Good interpersonal skills working with a diverse group of hourly and salary employees
  • Any experience in manufacturing is very favorable


Job Requirements:

  • Candidate must be attending a 4-year university local to Saginaw
    • Freshman or Sophomore class standing preferred
  • Candidate must be pursuing a Bachelors in Engineering
    • Mechanical or Electrical
  • Must be a full-time student (12 or more credits) during Fall and Winter semesters
  • Must have a cumulative 2.7 GPA on a 4.0 scale
  • Candidate must be able to work 20-32 hours during Fall and Winter semesters
    • Up to 40 in the summer
  • Candidate must have right to work in the US and not require current or future sponsorship
