The Nexteer Automotive Steer-by-Wire engineering team continues to grow and evolve as we are working with multiple customers in support of their development of demonstration vehicles and design requirements.  Steer-by-wire technology is an exciting development in the automotive industry, gathering considerable interest from many areas.  It provides significant benefits for both traditional and autonomously-driven vehicles, being a key enabler for the Nexteer Quiet Wheel technology and seamless transitions between autonomous and human drivers. 

 

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain build processes/work instructions for prototype assembly and retrofit projects
  • Work closely with multiple groups within the organization to delivery prototypes on-time and to a high quality
  • Support quality and delivery of SbW samples for internal and customer vehicle and bench testing
  • Guarantee integrity of prototype builds, using incoming inspection data, control plans/process flow charts, final inspection methods, and end of line performance test results
  • Manage/archive all relevant build/inspection data as needed for records
  • Participate in weekly core team meetings
  • Provide technical requirements for prototype component and assembly orders
  • Work with purchasing to support supplier technical reviews and development activities
  • Provide design troubleshooting for prototype build cells and suppliers’ components
  • Act as the interface between central PE and prototype group
  • Support group ME in process definition when requested
  • Work with customer to clarify technical requirements on orders
  • Support customer complaint responses
  • Support “First Time Quality” responses

 

Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to solve problems quickly in a dynamic work environment
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
  • Experience working with prototype and production suppliers for low volume batch run of parts
  • Ability to work independently on complex projects, with minimal supervision
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously, while maintaining on-time customer delivery
  • Ability to lead and communicate effectively with customers, vendors, and other team members
  • Ability to perform hands-on testing and data collection
  • Proficient in reading 2D component drawings and assembly drawings along with GD&T
  • Ability to use hand tools for sample builds and sample teardowns
  • High level oral / written communication skills required
  • Proficient in MS Word, Excel, Power Point, and Outlook
  • High level of negotiating skills
  • Knowledge of product and process Design
  • Ability to network with all corporate headquarters staffs

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Degree: Bachelor
  • Major: Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering
