The objective of the Student Programs at Nexteer Automotive is to select students with high potential and provide them with "real world" work experiences. Work assignments expose students to many of the company’s products, processes, procedures, problems, resources, staff areas and people so that they become aware of the career opportunities at Nexteer Automotive. Assignments are designed to assimilate acquired classroom education with actual hands-on work experience in a technical environment. In addition, Nexteer Automotive gains the opportunity to find new talent to enhance productivity.


The System Safety Group job description includes:

  1. Gain an understanding of Nexteer EPS (Electric Power Steering) and Safety for the system(s).
  2. Develop Safety Tests for Features to be tested in a Vehicle &/or on the bench. Write the test procedures & Work instructions per templates.
  3. Build test harnesses, etc. as needed for new tests. Install test equipment into the vehicle to prepare for testing.
  4. Aid in running tests, and postprocessing data into charts and reports. May include visits to customer test sites.
  5. Update macros to postprocess data into standard output plots.  Provide results summary for Test reports.
  6. Update and maintain existing test procedures now in Draft status.
  7. Document Safety requirements in DOORS.
  8. Perform Safety tasks from Safety engineers as assigned and agreed to.


Job Requirements

  • Candidate must be attending local university
  • Candidate must be studying Bachelors in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering
  • Candidate must be able to work 20-32 hours during Fall and Winter semesters
    • Up to 40 in the summer
  • Must have cumulative 2.7 GPA
  • Must be a full-time student (12 or more credits)
  • Candidate must have right to work in the US and not require current or future sponsorship
