Systems Engineer - Core Development (2021)

We are looking for an inquisitive, highly self-motivated individual who is eager to learn and has good attention to detail and time management skills.  This position is responsible for systems engineering, requirements, and architecture related to torque control, power management, and thermal management for the powerpack (motor + control module + software) in electronic steering systems.  This position allows the candidate to see the full lifecycle of the project.  The ideal candidate will have experience in automotive systems engineering, requirements flow down, design architecture, control systems, and software. 

 

Description:

  • Understanding and creating system and subsystem specifications.
  • Developing systems from concept through application.
  • Designing and optimizing simultaneous system performance goals through requirements flow down.
  • Responsible for the system requirements and design architecture for motor control, power management, and thermal protection in electronic steering systems.
  • Provides technical leadership for projects incorporating complex electromechanical (“Mechatronic”) systems.
  • Effectively integrating all aspects of a design using multi-disciplinary engineering.
  • Supporting technology development, innovation, efficiency and process improvement activities.
  • Developing core processes and procedures to support efficient project execution.
  • Use cutting-edge tools to show and improve requirements traceability, architecture designs, and relationships between subsystems.
  • Stays abreast of new technology and best practices by attending conferences, company supported training, and education.

 

Job Requirements:

  • 2+ Years of experience in controls systems, embedded systems, or systems engineering.
  • Cumulative GPA 2.7 (minimum).
  • Strong computer skills (MS Office, specifically Excel), and knowledge of simulation tools (MATLAB/Simulink) and system engineering tools (IBM DOORS, Rhapsody, RTC, etc.).
  • General competency in all core fields (systems engineering, electronics, electromagnetics, computer hardware and software).
  • Experience in automotive systems engineering and standards (ISO 26262, ASPICE, and/or KGAS, etc.).
  • Demonstrated structured problem-solving techniques.
  • Knowledge of system synthesis, analysis and verification techniques.
  • Good organization and documentation abilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and with others.
  • Must be able to view a computer screen or monitor for extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to sit or stand for extended periods of time.

 

Preferred

  • Knowledge of electric machine types commonly used in electric power steering such as brushless PMSM and DC brush.
  • Experience with design and analysis of control systems, motor control systems, sensing subsystems, and/or power electronics.
  • Experience with System Requirements Development and System Architecture Development.
  • Background in automotive engineering and chassis systems (steering, braking, suspension).
  • Experience in managing large, complex projects.

 

Education:

BS in Systems Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Software/Computer Engineering with emphasis on electromagnetics, electric machines, sensing systems, embedded systems, automotive systems, or control systems.

MS in Systems Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering with emphasis in motor control systems and drives, control systems, or systems engineering.
